Practicalities of Patching

 

Applying and removing the eye patch: Instructions are written on the back of the box containing the patches.

Pointers:

  • Apply over clean dry skin.
  • Apply below the eyebrow.
  • Position the patch with the narrow end towards the nose.
  • Make certain the skin is smooth under the adhesive.
  • Try to apply when the eye is closed.
  • Firmly and completely cover the eye.
  • Place patch on first before putting glasses on.
  • Remove the patch gently by loosening the edges towards the middle while supporting the eyelid so it is not pulled.

Skin irritation

  • The patch is only for waking hours so "Spare the Skin when Sleeping".
  • Reposition the patch so it touches different areas of the skin.
  • Use pinking shears to trim the edges of the patch or scissors to cut small holes in the adhesive.
  • Ask your doctor about applying liquid Maalox on the skin and letting it dry before applying the patch.
