Outbreaks and Attacks: How the Press Covers Public Health Emergencies

Patricia Thomas, author and award winning science writer, and Maryn McKenna, national science desk and medical reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, discuss how the press covers public health emergencies. Ms. Thomas focuses on how governments managed news and relationships with the press during anthrax and SARS. Ms. McKenna talks about the mechanics of covering public health issues - what reporters need and expect of public health.
