Randy Hanzlick, MD, Chief Medical Examiner, Fulton County, Georgia, and Professor of Forensic Pathology, Emory University School of Medicine, discusses the development and current status of death investigation systems in the United States and Georgia. He also discusses the role of the Medical Examiner in public health preparedness in terms of collecting, sharing, and reporting data, as well as having the expertise and resources to manage individual or multiple fatality incidents that are of public health significance.
