Outbreak Investigations in the 21st Century: Using New Systems
to Protect the Public’s Health
Richard Besser, MD, Director of the Coordinating Office for Terrorism
Preparedness and Emergency Response at the CDC, discusses changes
and technological advances affecting public health preparedness and
response. His discussion outlines past outbreaks and their process
of investigation. Dr. Besser presents new systems, as well as those
currently being developed, that assist in improving the ability to
