Legal Authorities for Public Health Emergencies

James J. Misrahi, JD, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office of the General Counsel, examines the current status of public health law in the country. His lecture discusses the use of law as a tool for public health and past public health issues that are still of major concern in the present, such as quarantine. Mr. Misrahi also addresses the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, a draft developed after 9/11 at the request of the CDC to assist states in revising public health statues.
