David Oshinsky, PhD, 2006 Pulitzer Prize Winner in the History Category (Department of History, University of Texas, Austin) shares the gripping story of the polio terror and the intense effort to find a cure as told in his book, “Polio: An American Story”. The remarkable telling of the story of polio in America in the 40’s and 50’s provides insight into the culture of the time, media and communication, the public’s fears, research and practice, governmental and other agencies’ roles and funding.
