Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT)

The CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) has the charter of translating science into daily practice. They take information from clinical trials and incorporate it into clinical and public health practices.

The DDT strategic plan includes:
Vision: A world free of the devastation of diabetes.

Mission: To reduce the preventable burden of diabetes through public health leadership, partnership, research, programs, and policies that translate science into practice.

Strategic Focus: Concentrate efforts where we can achieve the greatest impact for populations with the greatest burden or risk.

ABOUT DIABETES TODAY

To help achieve DDT’s goals, Diabetes Today: Planning for Coalition Action, has been redesigned to help you build a strong coalition and develop an effective action plan for diabetes prevention and control. While this training uses diabetes examples, the skills learned here can be used for planning across all chronic disease areas.

There are four components to the program:

  • Pre-Assessment
  • Online Tutorials
  • Designer Workshop
  • Ongoing Technical Assistance & Learning Community (optional)

  • Designer Workshop – the workshop takes place in person over the course of 2 days. The workshop is a dynamic learning experience which allows you to practice skills, apply knowledge, and engage with other participants to share ideas and insight. You will complete a mock action plan in preparation for actual work you will do upon returning to your community. The workshop builds on and reinforces information reviewed in these online tutorials.
  • Ongoing Technical Assistance & Learning Community (optional) – you can request additional technical assistance from DTTAC in order to support their efforts to implement the planning process in their communities. Participants will also have access to an online learning community with additional resources and tools, opportunities for shared learning and interaction, and updates on current programs and best practices.
