2003 Honored Organizations and Individuals

On behalf of the Martin Luther King Community Services Awards Committee, we would like to extend an invitation for you to join us at this year's program. The event will take place on Thursday, Jan 23 from 4:00pm-6:00pm in the auditorium of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

Since 1993, the Rollins School of Public Health has organized an annual program to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In collaboration with the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and the Goizueta School of Business, this year's 10th anniversary program will focus on the theme, "Our Call to Conscience: Voices for the Future." As in the past, during the event we will recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations that have served the needs of people from all walks of life living in metropolitan Atlanta.

This year's program is dedicated to the memory of the work of the Rev. Hosea Williams. Over 32 years ago he founded 'Hosea Feed the Homeless and Hungry' to address the needs of the poor. The organization, now under the direction of Elisabeth Williams Omilami, provides meals, cash grants, clothing, and supports the purchase of medicine for the disadvantaged citizens of the metropolitan Atlanta community.

The Speaker for the event will be Dr. Angela Farris Watkins, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King. The program also includes a presentation of poetry and song by the performance group Resonance written and directed by Dr. Gloria Wade Gayles, an Emory medalist. The international youth chorus, Harmony will be performing as well.

We hope that you will join us for what promises to be an inspirational event.
