Nagambal Shah, Ph.D.
Dr. Shah understands the importance of collaboration. She realized that in order to
make changes in the society you can not work alone. Dr. Shah is a woman who realized
that in order to see change in society there must be diversification. Her vision has
always been to see more minorities in public health careers. Therefore, she has devoted
herself to providing a quality education to Spelman students in the Mathematics
Department by developing curriculum and channeling students into graduate programs to
bring forth emerging leaders, professionals, teachers, and community activists. Dr.
Shah is a woman of determination, prestige and compassion. She inspires academic
excellence by setting high standards, teaching rigorous and challenging courses, and
encouraging student participation in research. Her students remember her closing
remarks of their first class with her, "You may have to take the journey alone, but you
do not have to be lonely."
