2001 Individual Award Recipient
Maggie Gilead, Ph.D.
Dr. Gilead has worked to create and carry out an innovative nursing project for the
treatment of African-American patients with Sickle Cell Anemia. She has contributed to
the improvement of services for underserved mentally ill, addicted, or developmentally
challenged individuals and their families through her membership on the DeKalb Board for
Mental Health Services. Dr. Gilead has been a resource for counseling nursing students
experiencing racial conflict and has served as counselor for the Honor's Residence Hall.
She is dedicated to the improvement of race relations as it effects health, education,
welfare, and equal opportunities.
