"Tomorrow's challenge is not in the creation of diverse environments. These will evolve naturally from demographic changes. Tomorrow's challenge is anticipating, understanding, and managing the needs and issues that emerge from such environments.

The American Institute for Managing Diversity, Inc. (AIMD) continues to be on the leading edge of developments in the burgeoning field of diversity. As in its first decade, AIMD helps organizations understand the business imperative for managing diversity, provides ongoing insights into the strategic implementation of diversity, identifies and categorizes trends in diversity management, and suggests new areas of research critical to successful application. Consequently, there is an ongoing, important role for the Institute into the next decade and beyond.

Founded in 1984, the American Institute for Managing Diversity (AIMD) was the first national, nonprofit organization created for the study of diversity issues. It is known as the innovator of research-based information on diversity issues. AIMD has provided individuals and organizations an opportunity to take proactive measures to make their work place and community better environments for all.

AIMD has developed in-depth knowledge and information resources unmatched in the nation, collecting and expanding the knowledge base about diversity. AIMD offers a positive, actionable framework for change management geared to long-term, systemic change, rather than a temporary fix. As evidence of this knowledge base, in the 14 years since its creation, AIMD has helped hundreds of organizations understand the strategic imperative for managing diversity, provided guidance for the integral implementation of diversity organizations, identified and categorized trends in diversity management, and addressed new areas of research critical to successful application. AIMD tools and concepts form the basis of all current diversity work and are often referenced by industry reports.

AIMD's values are reflected in the belief that human potential is unlimited and that learning to interact with each other positively and dynamically is a keystone in the evolution of human consciousness. Dynamic interaction, with full value placed on the contributions of each individual, enriches and heightens all human endeavor.

Our vision is of an expanded global consciousness leading to organizations and societies that work for everyone, without unnatural advantages or disadvantages for any member. We envision a world in which individual initiative is supported, cultivated, and rewarded through empowered institutions, a world in which everyone can reach his/her full potential.

We envision societies that embrace diversity and in which diversity reinvigorates institutions at all levels; where a sense of community endures and is nurtured; and where barriers between people are overcome."
